School life and clubs

Hi Weekend life was great for me but like all good thing they End come Monday morning. It's the start of School so your up at the crack of dawn, wash,Dress and breakfast before your off on a joyful hard working day at School.leaving home you join up with the rest of the clan and friends and leg it up the road messing about and kicking a tin can or a empty boxes or just acting out.Sometimes we Jump on the TrollyBus to school.

Once at school you disperse into you own group of friends, normally having a game of Football or British Bulldog.(for those not in the know you have 1 or 2 people in the middle of the playground and you run from 1 side to the other until there is just one person left),Its ruff and tumble. Many a cut and bruised boy started classes each day.

Lessons started a 9:00o'clock till 4:00o'clock,with 2 break times(milk in the morning break)and the lunch time.

8 lessons a day which was great.Every morning was the same the bell would ring and we all lined up and went to class for roll call, then it was into the Hall for Prays and a sing song, before the lessons started.

You never really understand things when you young. But of course you were taught the 3R's which were Reading,Writing and Arithmetic,or as our teacher said, read, write and remember the Rules.Junior school age 5--11yrs were Fun you knew what each day brought and the fun and games you got up to.

I use to look forward the Lunch Time and the School meals,They were great with quit a few favorites that I liked.for Example the Mince and Mash,Choc pudding and strawberry Custard,Pie chips and Peas/beans,with Frog spawn (tapioca)for afters.Rhubarb crumble and custard Prune's and rice.Yes these were some of the really great School dinners.

After school we go scrumping for apples(any fruit that was ready) or knock about playing Football, sometimes we go to the AirFix factory and look through the Reject Bin and help ourselvers to the planes and boats bits then make one good one out of it.

Holiday time we went to Play-Center where we played sport and did Art & Crafts, did Gymnastics,Listern to Music and just had fun. They always had a Day trip to Bushy Park and trips to the Museum.playing football against other Centre's was fun.

But like all good things they changed like Girlfriends and Cubs and other thing that occupy a young inquistive person. There was never a dull moment in my young Tearaway life.LOL!!

Life for us kids on Saturdays was just messing around the alley or over the park with the rest of the Clan,Cousin and friends. There you could get stuff from the Play Park, like Stilts,Footballs,Hockey sticks and Skipping ropes.normally you just joined in with others and enjoyed yourself.Play at being Cowboy's or Indians or Robin Hood with your Bow and Arrow's(did accidentally Shoot my sister in her leg),Made Hidouts in the Woods.Got into the Swimming Pool through the Raillings, when it was very Hot days.great fun on the Swings and other rides. You felt safe in those days compared to todays life style.

As you got older you went to Saturday Morning Pictures, with your 6p Pocket /Spending money,3p to get in and the other to Buy the Stale 1p Rice buns usually ending up with about a Dozen, plus a Cream cake. They hey held games and Dance stuff on stage before the Pictures started and everyone had a go.then you cheer for the Best.I won a few times. Once the Pictures finished me and my mates use to walk up-down the aisles picking up the Money the other kids had dropped.I had a accident when race my friend someone had strung a lenght of Wire across the Grass and it cut into my Neck.
I used to go to the Libaray and help there of an afternoon, unless I was playing Sports for the Cubs or the Boy's Brigade. It was about this time I started to go Fishing up the Common.with my old Bean Stick and line and hook and a tin of worms.
then there were the times we Went to where they made the Plastic Air-Fix Model and we would collect the rejects and make one complete Plane.
We used to make Guy Fawkes and sit on the corner asking for Penny For the Guy,so that we could buy the 1pBangers.But you had to be on the lookout for the Police.Seem years ago but you always remember little things.but that was Saturday for youngsters.

Come Autumn there was the Who could find the Biggest conker or knocking them out of the Trees(HorseChest Nut).number of times that I fell from Trees but Boys will be Boys.
Sunday nights were for TV with things like Sunday Night at the London Paladinu,The Untuchables,Wagon Train, Quiz shows,I LOVE LUCY and other stuff on the Black & White TV.Music and Drama was another of the things that was begining to hit the Radio.Like The Archers,Mrs Dales Diary.
Well seem like i have just about covered the Sundays of my early years, just to say they can never be repeated, but we can always reminisce about the Good old Days. Will let you into my life on Satureday's in the near future.

Sundays Plus

Other things that come to mind from our Sunday's,were when we had our tricycle with Trailer, taking turns at peddling,or riding our scooters or just running free.
The Sunday Roast were things to look forward too.Going to Sunday School at the local Anchor Mission while my mum and other family members were at Church. Then we would all take a steady walk home where Dad had the Roast Dinner Cooking,Roast Beef/Pork/Chicken/Lamb depending which was decided on,then there was Roast Potato's cooked in Goose fat or Beef Dripping,And the fresh Veg,Cabbage,Swede,Runner Beans,Cauliflower,Brussels Sprouts,
Parsnips, and finally Yorkshire Puddings and the Stuffing or Sauce.
After Dinner we would go out for a walk but sometimes we stayed home and watched
TV( Black &White) Kids Programs or the Sunday Football Match with teams like
The TV AllStars Verses the Varity Club. The TV then was so easy with just the 2 Channels. You knew what to expect week in week out.But I still was glued to it.How life has changed.

Sundays Part 1

Sundays were a Family affair when we use to visit Aunt's and Uncles,or walks to Wimbledon Common,to the Windmill, walk round the lake,or to Putney to
Bishop Park where we played in the Paddling Pool and on the swings then along the River Thames and a slow stroll home afterwards, through the streets and across King George's Park and to play on the swings, roundabouts and the giant Slide(my Favorite). These were Fun times, when we all climb on to the Tram's/Trollybus to travel round London or the Red Route-masters
(Double-Deckers Bus)to visit with a friend of my mother at White City. Not far from Wormwood Scrubs where we were lavished with Sandwich's and Cream Cakes(also as she worked in a Sweet Factory so their was always a bag of Goodies for the kids. Then there were trips on The Old Railway Steam Trains to Guildford, where we stuck our heads out the Window's to catch the smoke or going through the tunnels.Dad's Family were scattered a bit. Then you had the Train trips to Southend or Brighton. But most times It was always a Coach to Southend in the Summer or any school Holiday's. There is more about Sundays so will save it for another day.

Early years

Looking Back over my early years at all the antic's and tricks that I engaged in,just wonder how many other people out there have had the same sort of fun. Will have to break it down into different Section's.So From the age of 5 to 9yrs will be my next few chapters in my dear old life.So sit back and see what does appear from trips to Sport and Fun and games.
Sometimes wish that it would come again. But alas will never see them.

Life.

Hello,

Life, for me seems years but it's just what you make it.Lets see where do I start, what can I remember of my young life.Born in London.

Thinking back I must say that my earliest thoughts were as a young 5Year old at school in the Xmas play as a Angel for the Nativity Play, and the Xmas of that year with my presents of a Wind-up Train, and my Cowboy Outfit with Twin Holsters and the usual little gifts in my stocking at the end of the bed.But Alas nowdays things are to commercialised and all holidays seem to run into each other. You do not have the time to enjoy these wonderful days.It was a time of family and joyfulness spread thoughout the world no matter where you were from.
The times with my Dad when we used to go to Petticoat Lane and Portabelle Road with all the Market Stalls and Street Traders selling their wears. The Town Crier sing out the joyful News and the Hot-Chestnuts and Doughnuts sellers, the Magicians and the Jugglers and Choirs Singing Hymns all these thing were part of life.Maybe in furture time these thing just might return,to enjoy again.

Until the next trip back in time, lets hope that we can at least make this world a better place for everyone.
